June National Teacher of the Month

Our teachers across the county are truly game changers. They are dedicated, passionate and truly know how to engage each of their students every day.

The process of choosing just one teacher each month is beyond difficult, but we are pleased to announce that our 2019 June National Teacher of the Month is Karen Rushton of Little Sunshine’s Playhouse and Preschool of The Woodlands, TX! Here is some fun information about her and what makes her such a standout!

What age group do you teach?
Infants

What is the name of your classroom?
Enchanted Forest

What do you love most about the age group you teach?
Everything is new to these babies and I love to watch them soak up all of their new experiences. I really enjoy interacting with them as they grow and learn.

What is your favorite curriculum project you’ve ever done in your classroom?
I really like to watch them explore the various Reggio-inspired materials that we add to the classroom. I find it interesting to see what they are drawn to and what they do with them.

What do you enjoy most about working for LSP?
I enjoy working with my co-workers at LSP and all of the nice things the management team does to help make us feel appreciated. Our staff lunches and fun games often generate a sense of family that I don’t think you find at many other places.

Who and/or what inspires you?
I am inspired by a desire to find things that the babies will be interested in. Exploring what other schools incorporate into their classroom is often an inspiration to me. My trip to Italy was a BIG inspiration – I learned so much at the Reggio Emilia conference last fall.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three kids. I love to go to the movies, the Houston Astros and scrapbooking. My church family is very important to me as well. I am also a budding photographer and enjoy learning more about this hobby.

Tell us one special fact about yourself that no one would expect.
When I was in High School, I marched in the Houston Thanksgiving Parade!
