Strike Out SIDS, Kansas City, MO
All of our Little Sunshine’s Playhouse preschools love being involved with their community. On Friday, September 19, 2014, Little Sunshine’s Playhouse, Leawood had the opportunity to participate in Strike Out SIDS at the K (The KC Royals stadium) to help bring community awareness to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). They were invited to participate in the event by SIDS Resources Inc.
The event included tailgate games, child-friendly activities, and a raffle. At the conclusion of the tailgate party, a balloon release was done in memory of families affected by the loss of a child to SIDS.
Together with Little Sunshine’s Playhouse, SIDS Resources Inc., and other sponsors raised $7,700 for SIDS Research. According to the CDCP (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), SIDS occurrences have decreased from 53.9% (infant age 1 month to 1-year deaths) in 2005 to 43.3% in 2011. Research and education have been key in this process.
Resources Inc. serves as a source of information and support for the parents, grandparents, extended families and friends of newborn babies. Information on the latest recommendations to improve infant health and reduce the risk of SIDS is provided to new parents and caregivers through telephone support, written information and educational materials.
