March Manager Spotlight

Mrs. Kelley, Program Director of Little Sunshine's Playhouse and Preschool of Springfield, MO at Chestnut

We are very excited to introduce you to Ms. Kelley Leggett, our March 2015 Manager Spotlight recipient! Kelley is the Program Director of our Springfield II, MO Little Sunshine’s Playhouse program.

Kelley’s love for the education field began at a young age when she would play school with her younger brother and sister. She knew then that she wanted to be a teacher when she grew up! While attending SMSU, she began her first job at a preschool and knew she had found her passion. Unfortunately, after getting married, her career plans changed and she took a different path. It took ten years, but after realizing she wasn’t happy going to work every day, she finally took a leap of faith and made her way back to where her heart really was, child care.

She began her journey with Little Sunshine’s Playhouse over five years ago as an Assistant Teacher, and was then promoted to Head Teacher where she stayed for over two and a half years. She then got the chance for another promotion to the Assistant Director that she enjoyed for almost a year. It was then that Kelley got the opportunity to take over the head management position and lead her own school as the Program Director.

She says that her favorite thing about her job is getting to love all of her kiddos. Both the big kiddos, her staff, and all of her little ones in the classroom. She feels fortunate to be able to help mold and shape each one of their lives.

Outside of work, Kelley is blessed to spend her free time with her two favorite people, Matt and Amara. Whether they are watching their favorite sports teams, televisions shows or just hanging out on their back deck, they truly enjoy making the most out of their time together. Kelley says, “They are my biggest fans and support me in all that I do.”

We asked Kelley to give us one special fact about herself that many people might not know, and we got to learn all about how she was a military kiddo growing up! She lived in many different states through her school age years and even overseas in Germany! She attributes her love of traveling to that and the fact that two weeks before she was born, her parents drove halfway across the country to have her in their home state of Kentucky to be around family and friends!

Kelley’s Assistant Director, Kristen Marshall, had the following to say about her, “I am beyond thankful to be a part of LSP Springfield II’s management team with Kelley.  Kelley has many redeeming qualities that make her a great leader.  She’s a hard worker, creative, and very articulate in everything she says and does.  The best quality Kelley possesses however, is her true genuineness.  She can brighten a room immediately and has touched many lives in the five years she has been a part of the LSP family.  Her connections with the kiddos, families, and staff members have truly been inspiring to watch!  She always calls us her “second family” and she lives that statement out each day.  I’m blessed to be under her leadership, to be a part of management with her, and to call her a great friend!  Thank you Kelley for all that you do!”
