September 2022 National Teacher of the Month
The Teacher of the Month award is designed to recognize an employee that exemplifies our core values, which are compassion, humility, integrity, loyalty and discipline. This month we are pleased to announce that our 2022 September National Teacher of the Month is Ms. Laurel of Little Sunshine’s Playhouse and Preschool of The Woodlands.
In talking about how Ms. Laurel exemplifies LSP’s core values, Program Director, Ms. Karri said, “Laurel is one of our original teachers and has been with Little Sunshine’s since the beginning. We just celebrated her 6th anniversary with us. She works well with others and is consistently at work and on time. She will cheerfully switch shifts with her teachers or pitch in and help wherever needed. Ms. Laurel is amazing, and we are so thankful that she is part of Team Woodlands!”
Here is some fun information about her and what makes her such a standout!
What age group do you teach?
Preschool
What is the name of your classroom?
Arendelle
What do you love most about the age group you teach?
I love their personalities. The questions students ask are the best! It is such a fun age to work with. They always have the most creative stories to share with us and sometimes it is hard to keep a straight face when their imagination is running wild.
What is your favorite curriculum project you’ve ever done in your classroom?
I think my all-time favorite projects are the ones involving eruptions. During our dinosaur curriculum, we build and erupt volcanoes. The kids love watching it erupt! In October we love to erupt our pumpkins after they have been in the pumpkin decorating contest. I love the look of amazement that the kids have!
What do you enjoy most about working for LSP?
I think the thing that I love the most about LSP is the family aspect – this is one place where we TRULY feel more like a family than just co-workers. I love my amazing co-teachers.
What made you want to become an early childhood educator?
My entire family is in education, so they inspired me to be an educator. I used to nanny and volunteer at my church, so I have always had a heart for children.
Who and/or what inspires you?
My sister is my biggest inspiration. She has such a big heart for everyone, and I want to be like her.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
When I am not working, I enjoy being creative. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends is very important to me. I also volunteer at my church.
Tell us one special fact about yourself that no one would expect.
I am adopted, my birth parents are deaf and I have ten siblings.
