June 2024 National Teacher of the Month
The Teacher of the Month award is designed to recognize an employee that exemplifies our core values, which are compassion, humility, integrity, loyalty, and discipline. This month we are pleased to announce that our 2024 June National Teacher of the Month is Ms. Emily of Little Sunshine’s Playhouse and Preschool of Creve Coeur, MO.
In talking about how Ms. Emily exemplifies LSP’s core values, Assistant Director, Ms. Carol said, “Ms. Emily is an incredible employee!
She has a heart of gold, she is so kind, and a team player. Ms. Emily is always willing to help in any classroom. She has a positive vibe that radiates throughout the center from the moment she enters the building. Emily is typically in the infant classrooms and knows those families well. The parents rave at how loving and caring she is with their child and how she takes the time to get to know the needs of each individual child and follows each infants’ individualized plan of care. Ms. Emily is such a fantastic teacher, and I am so excited to recognize her as our Teacher of the Month!”

Emerald City
What do you love most about the age group you teach?
I love my interactions with parents and making them feel safe and comfortable leaving their infant in my care. I teach the littlest members of our school and it is so rewarding to watch them grow so quickly!
What is your favorite curriculum project you’ve ever done in your classroom?
My favorite project has been our handprint art. It’s so fun seeing the babies first pieces of art and how excited the parents get to take it home.
What do you enjoy most about working for LSP?
I most enjoy seeing my babies every day and making that connection with the student and their family. I’ve grown so close to these families and love being a part of their lives.
What made you want to become an early childhood educator?
I joined early childhood as a steppingstone to my career as a pediatric nurse. I had no idea how much being an educator would help me grow such as making connections with families and being that safe person for them. These are skills that I will take with me into my nursing career.
Who and/or what inspires you?
My role as an educator is inspired by my mom who has been an elementary school teacher my whole life. I see the difference she makes in her students every day and am so glad I can do the same.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love to hike, camp, and just be outdoors. I also love to read and go to concerts.
Tell us one special fact about yourself that no one would expect.
I was on a billboard for the St. Louis Zoo when I was 6!
